Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Van graduated from the Department of Environmental Science of Hanoi National University of Natural Sciences and got her M.Sc in Forest and Nature Conservation Policy from Wageningen University (Netherlands). She joined PanNature - a Vietnamese NGO in September 2008, right after her graduation from university, and worked as a policy analyst/coordinator of the Policy Research Program. During her time with PanNature, Van has significantly developed her own research and knowledge to tackle challenges on environmental and social safeguard issues, mostly focusing on nature conservation, forest governance, and several new market-oriented initiatives such as REDD+, PES, and FLEGT/VPA.

Since 2018, Van has been working with Prof.CK on the Social Science Research Workpackage of the FTViet and on the political ecology of local responses and livelihood adjustment within the conjuncture of changing forest governance and resource use regimes on the edge of the nature conservation area, in A Luoi district, Thua Thien Hue province. Van earned her Ph.D. at the end of 2021. Since January 2022, Van has continued to work for the FTViet project, as a senior researcher in both Social Science Research Workpackage and Policy Outreach.
